Such a joy with no caravans on the road.
The Northern Lakes
Starting at Cockermouth, a gentle climb to Buttermere, past the shore of Crummock Water, then sharp left up to the top of the pass towards Keswick. South again along between Thirlmere (the lake) and Helvellyn (the mountain) and into Ambleside. Take a deep breath and then left again up the Kirkstone Pass to the Inn, and down into Glenridding. A perfect road along Ullswater and on to Penrith to get the A6 south to Kendal via Shap.
Then pick the flies out of your teeth.
The Southern Lakes
Turn off the main southern road at Greenodd and enjoy the road up to Tolver and through Coniston. Before Skelwith Bridge hang a left to Wrynose and out into the open coutryside with the hills ahead of you. The Wrynose Pass climbs steeply in places, and then flattens out to meander in smooth curves alon gthe riverside. And then Hardknott Pass takes you over the far end and down into Eskdale Green.
Just before the village, turn left and cross the moors southbound to Ulpha and Duddon Bridge, and then on to the sea at Whitham. Is there a better ride in the sunshine ?
The Wrynose Pass
More fun than a bag of fun.
Wrynose Valley by the river
Curves like Marilyn Monroe
The Hardknott Pass.
It's hard not to like it.
And just as much fun coming down
Austhwaite Brow.
Ok, I confess, i just left the camera running but what a ride to record by chance
